i’m currently having a lot of feelings about the concept that hank anderson is the youngest, and smallest, of four siblings who all like to ruffle his hair and pick him up. hank, who hasn’t been great at keeping in touch with them ever since cole died, invites all of them over so that they can meet connor, and connor is completely overwhelmed with how much he instantly likes them because he sees hank in them – hank’s butch sister who drags him for his fashion sense even though she wears even more daring prints, his brother who has a good 10 cm on hank and could probably lift two of his siblings at the same time but shares hank’s laugh and smiles, and his oldest sister

with the raspy voice, completely dressed in leather, who claims full responsibility for hank’s taste in music. and they all have the same blue eyes (though hank’s are the prettiest). and they all bring their dogs. connor has heart eyes all afternoon and hank watches him and forgets to be nervous about this.

When I was in middle school, I took commissions from classmates for drawings of Spongebob characters for about a quarter a pop.  It was one of my first forays into “professional” cartooning, and only a small example of the monumental impact of this plucky underwater sponge.

I know I’m not alone in believing that the show has left an indelible mark on the face of cartoon and internet history, and its aftershock will continue for many years.

Rest in Peace, Stephen Hillenburg.  Thanks for the good times.
